This layer farming project in Nigeria was developed for a total capacity of 48,000 laying hens. The customer purchased 300 sets of A-type layer chicken cages and divided the project into four poultry houses, with 12,000 birds housed in each building.

Rather than placing all 48,000 layers in one large poultry house, the customer wanted to achieve large-scale production through several separate houses. This approach matched the customer’s farm development plan and made it possible to organize the flock and daily work by poultry house.

The selected equipment is a 4-tier, 5-door A-type layer cage. Each cage set accommodates 160 laying hens, and the cage dimensions are 1950 mm × 450 mm × 410 mm. All four poultry houses use the same cage configuration, providing the farm with a clear and consistent production layout.

Each poultry house measures 54 m long, 12 m wide and 3.5 m high. Inside each house, the cages are arranged in three rows, with 25 cage sets in every row. Each poultry house therefore contains 75 sets of A-type layer cages and accommodates 12,000 laying hens.

Using the same layout in all four houses gives the customer a more organized production structure. Feeding, water-line inspection, egg collection, manure cleaning and flock observation can be arranged separately for each building. The farm manager can also organize workers and daily tasks according to the condition of each flock.

Suitable 1.08m working passages are retained between the cage rows and along the sides of the poultry houses. Workers can move through the houses, inspect the birds and complete routine work without interfering with the normal operation of the cage rows.

Why the Customer Chose A-Type Layer Cages

The customer’s concern was not simply how many birds could be placed in one poultry house. The customer wanted to develop a large-scale layer farm through several poultry houses while keeping the initial investment in equipment within a practical range.

A fully automated H-type cage system can provide higher stocking capacity and a greater level of automation, but it also requires a larger initial budget. For this project, the customer preferred to divide the 48,000 laying hens among four houses and use an A-type cage system with a lower automation configuration.

The selected solution allowed the customer to reach the planned capacity of 48,000 layers without investing heavily in a highly automated cage system at the beginning of the project.

This configuration helped the customer control the initial cost of the cage equipment and supporting systems. Part of the daily work could be organized manually instead of relying on a complete automatic feeding, manure removal and egg collection system.

The stepped structure of the A-type cage also provides a clear view of the birds, feed troughs, drinking lines and eggs from the working aisles. This makes it convenient for workers to inspect the cages and manage the flock directly.

For this Nigerian customer, the A-type cage provided a practical balance between farming capacity, initial equipment investment and the preferred management method. The equipment was selected according to the customer’s actual budget and multi-house development plan, rather than applying a fixed cage solution based only on bird quantity.
