A-Type Layer Cages for 6,000 Birds Poultry Farm in Zambia

September 15, 2026

Our customer Mr. Kapota in Lusaka, Zambia, needed layer cages for an existing 30 × 12 × 3.5 m poultry house. The planned flock was about 6,000 layers. After verifying the dimensions of the poultry house, we supplied a rearing system comprising 39 units of 4-tier A-type layer cages. Each unit accommodates 160 birds, bringing the facility's designed capacity to 6,240 laying hens.

Project Information: 6,240-Layer Poultry Farm in Lusaka

Project location Lusaka, Zambia
Bird type Commercial laying hens
Designed capacity 6,240 layers
Poultry house size 30 × 12 × 3.5 m
Equipment supplied 39 sets of A-type layer cages
Cage configuration Four tiers, 160 birds per set
Cage dimensions 1950 × 450 × 410 mm

The poultry house had already been completed before Mr. Kapota purchased the poultry equipment. Therefore, the cage rows, working aisles, and operating space at both ends of the house had to be planned within the fixed 30 × 12 m building.

Based on the existing poultry house dimensions, we recommended a four-tier A-type layer cage system. This layout enabled Mr. Kapota to accommodate 6,240 layers within the available space while keeping the initial equipment investment under control.

Why Did the Farmer Choose A-Type Layer Cages?

1. A suitable initial investment for a 6,000-bird farm

For a farm of this size, an A-type chicken cage offers a practical balance between bird capacity and equipment cost. Compared with a high-density H-type cage system, the A-type structure requires a lower initial investment and is easier to operate on a medium-sized farm.

This allowed the customer to control the equipment budget while keeping enough working capital for purchasing layers, preparing feed and managing daily farm expenses.

2. The A-frame design is convenient for daily management

The sloped A-frame leaves open space between the cage tiers. Manure falls toward the collection area below instead of accumulating directly beneath an upper cage row. The open structure also makes it easier for workers to inspect the birds, check the drinking lines, add feed and collect eggs from the aisles.

For a poultry farm that still depends on regular worker participation, this straightforward structure makes daily operation and equipment inspection easier.

3. The cage configuration fits the existing poultry house

The customer’s poultry house measures 30 m long, 12 m wide and 3.5 m high. The selected four-tier A-type chicken cages for layers could be installed without rebuilding the main house structure.

The 3.5 m internal height is suitable for the four-tier cage configuration, while the 12 m house width provides enough room for cage rows and working aisles.

How Did LIVI Design the Cage Layout?

We prepared the cage layout according to the usable length and width of the existing poultry house. The 39 sets of A-type layer cages were arranged in three rows, with 13 sets in each row.

Each cage set is 1950 mm long, so 13 sets require approximately 25.35 m of cage-line length. The remaining house length provides space at the front and rear for access, equipment inspection and normal farm work.

The three-row layout also preserves practical working aisles within the 12 m house width. Farm workers can reach the feeding troughs, drinking lines and egg collection side of the cages without blocking movement through the poultry house.

This arrangement keeps the designed capacity at 6,240 birds without forcing too many cages into the available building. It also leaves the equipment accessible for cleaning, inspection and routine maintenance.

This drawing was prepared for the Zambia project and should not be treated as a fixed layout for every 6,000-bird farm. Cage quantity, row arrangement and aisle width may change according to the customer’s poultry house dimensions, doors, columns and other site conditions. LIVI checks these details before preparing a final poultry house cage layout.

What Installation Support Does LIVI Provide For This Farm?

After the equipment arrived in Zambia, LIVI provided remote installation guidance to help the client’s local workers assemble the A-type layer cage system in the correct order.

During installation, LIVI’s technical team reviewed photos and videos submitted by the client and communicated with the installation workers through online calls. The team checked the positioning and alignment of the cage frames, the connections between the feed troughs, and the installation of the drinking lines. When the workers encountered a problem, the technical team explained how to correct it before they proceeded to the next installation stage.

Installation Options

Remote guidance was the installation method selected for this Zambia project. For customers who require additional on-site support, LIVI can also arrange for technical engineers to travel to the project country or provide information about local installation teams. Customers can choose the installation option that best suits their project schedule, local workforce, and budget.
